Dementia is a disruptive form of brain disease that results in the degeneration of the cognitive function of the brain. It is thought that a lack of mental stimulation adds to the long-term and often gradual decrease in the ability to think and remember general tasks that are performed on a daily bases. Other common symptoms that are observed in those suffering dementia include emotional problems. Feelings of confusion can lead to difficulties with language and a decrease in motivation. A person’s consciousness is usually not affected.
We at Flip Flash Cards (FFC) believe that any type of mental stimulation will reduce the onset and slow down the impact of dementia. The visual stimulation of looking at photos, pictures, videos and recordings of family members covering events in one’s life are extremely beneficial. I have attached my own personal experience with Dementia and Alzheimer’s as a video and an article called “Mum’s Story” which you can read here.
